MS Re Reorganizes Underwriting Leadership to Enhance Client Focus
Global reinsurer MS Reinsurance (MS Re) has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its underwriting leadership, accompanied by strategic structural changes across its Americas, International, and Global Specialty Lines divisions. This reorganization is designed to create a more agile, client-centric business model that fosters deeper engagement and improves responsiveness to shifting market needs.
MS Re Establishes Global Specialty Lines Division
A key highlight of MS Re’s restructuring is the creation of a centralized Global Specialty Lines business unit. This new division will include Engineering and other specialty lines, enabling MS Re to develop highly customized solutions for complex and niche risks.
In support of this initiative, Joerg Bruniecki has been appointed as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), Global Specialty Lines, transitioning from his previous role as CUO, International. His appointment follows an interim period in which Charles Goldie, Group CUO, managed the specialty division alongside his global responsibilities. With Bruniecki taking the reins, Goldie returns his focus fully to group-level strategy and oversight.
MS Re Strengthens International and Americas Leadership Structures
To better align with specific client segments, the group is realigning its International and Americas P&C (Property & Casualty) operations. These changes will allow for more precise targeting of customer needs and faster service delivery.
Andy Hottinger, formerly Head of P&C for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), has been promoted to CUO, International, succeeding Bruniecki. In parallel, Louis de Segonzac will continue his leadership as CUO, Americas, overseeing the group’s operations in North and Latin America.
These geographic leadership shifts underscore MS Re’s goal to maximize underwriting efficiency through regional specialization and a stronger understanding of client dynamics.
MS Re Expands Specialized Leadership Under Global Specialty Lines
Within the newly established Global Specialty Lines unit, the group has announced several key leadership appointments to strengthen expertise in complex underwriting areas:
Paul Murphy will lead the newly dedicated Financial Risks team, which brings together Global Credit, Surety, Political Risk, and Mortgage business lines under a single leadership framework to drive risk management and innovation.
Andrew Shaw, previously Head of US Property, will head the Specialty Property team. This group will oversee the group’s Global Engineering portfolio as well as Complex Industrial and Corporate risks.
Rinat Bektleuov will continue leading the Agriculture business line, maintaining consistency in one of MS Re’s longstanding specialty offerings.
These appointments emphasize the group’s focus on niche markets and underscore the reinsurer’s intention to build domain-specific excellence.
MS Re Enhances Regional Leadership in International Markets
The international arm of MS Re has introduced additional leadership layers to manage increasing market complexity and meet growing demand across regions:
David Raich will now lead the European Mature Markets team.
Luciano Castagna takes charge of the Growth Markets, with an emphasis on expanding reinsurance needs in emerging economies.
Phil Froncioni will oversee the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and lead International Complex Catastrophe (Cat) risk operations.
Stefan Behr will head International Casualty, MGA, and Non-Standard Solutions, ensuring streamlined program business expansion across borders.
This diversification of leadership within the international division enhances the group’s ability to offer regional insights while maintaining global cohesion.
MS Re Bolsters Client Engagement Across the Americas
MS Re has also refined its leadership structure in the Americas to enhance customer engagement and streamline operations:
Joe Banker will lead the Regional Client team, focusing on deepening relationships with localized clients and brokers.
Maria Amelio assumes oversight of both the National Carriers segment—led by Jerry Farrell—and the MGA/Program Business, managed by MJ Chapleau.
Lucas Castagnino will continue to lead the Latin America and Caribbean unit, with no changes to the current structure.
These adjustments reflect the group’s drive to optimize service delivery across all levels of client interaction.
MS Re Pursues Growth Through Strategic Realignment
Speaking on the new leadership model, Group CUO Charles Goldie emphasized that these changes are part of MS Re’s broader growth strategy, designed to build on the reinsurer’s recent momentum.
“These developments will build on our success to this point and set us up to continue growing our business in the future,” Goldie said. “Over the past three years, we have nearly doubled in size by staying focused on what our clients need and being a trusted, stable partner.”
He noted that the group’s success stems from its disciplined underwriting approach and close client relationships, which have together produced a resilient and diversified portfolio.
“Our strategy is simple: know our clients deeply, deliver solutions that help them succeed, and make it easy for them to work with us. These changes will help ensure we keep delivering on that promise well into the future.”
Conclusion: MS Re Reinforces Its Position as a Trusted Reinsurance Partner
The leadership and organizational changes at MS Re reflect a forward-looking strategy grounded in specialization, regional precision, and enhanced client connectivity. By empowering a new generation of underwriting leaders and optimizing its business structure for efficiency and responsiveness, the group positions itself for sustainable growth in an increasingly dynamic global reinsurance market.
