Talanx has appointed Simone Auer as its new Chief Risk Officer.

Simone Auer has been appointed as Talanx’s Chief Risk Officer effective May 1st, 2023.

She will succeed Professor Dr. Gerhard Stahl. The long-term director of group risk management will continue to work for the group as a research advisor.

Simone Auer is a trained mathematician, who moved from Group subsidiary Hannover Rück SE to Talanx’s Group Risk Management in October 2022 to take the position of Deputy Chief Risk Officer.

Prior to that, she worked for Hannover Re for 17 years in the Dynamic Financial Analysis division, rising to the position of function head in 2016. She was in charge of the internal model for the Hannover Re Group in this position, among other things.

Gerhard Stahl will continue to prioritize his research to a larger extent. He has ambitions to conduct research in Europe on cyber and climate hazards, among other things.

He will continue to serve as a mentor for Talanx’s bright young employees and will hold the position of Research Advisor. These positions will give him the creative freedom to promote knowledge transfer and create connections between companies and younger academics.

We would like to express our gratitude to Gerhard Stahl for his loyal service over the past 16 years at our Group. His exceptional risk management skills have been crucial in enabling Talanx successfully navigate the difficulties of contemporary risk modeling. We are thrilled that we will still have access to his vast knowledge in the future. Simone Auer, a standout internal candidate, will take his place. She has my best wishes for success in her new position, and I am very much looking forward to working with her, stated Talanx AG CFO Dr. Jan Wicke.

The chairman of Talanx AG’s board of management, Torsten Leue, stated: “Risk is what we do as an insurance firm. Gerhard Stahl served as the team leader for the large group of coworkers that created our internal model. I owe him my deepest gratitude because this has substantially improved our ability to make decisions. This adventure, which intends to teach us how to better prepare for the unexpected in current periods of rapid change and global crises, will be carried out by Simone Auer.

Talanx is the third-largest German insurance group in terms of premium income and one of the largest in Europe. The Hannover-based company is active in more than 175 countries. The Talanx Group operates as a multi-brand provider with a focus on B2B insurance.
