Insurance Technology in Africa: Lessons from ITC Asia 2025
By Enyong Njock, CEO, Tataachi Network
Returning from ITC Asia 2025 in Singapore (June 3–5), I am more confident than ever that insurance technology in Africa is not just a possibility—it’s a necessity. The conference brought together innovators, insurers, and technologists from around the world to discuss the future of insurance. For those of us working to transform the African insurance sector, it offered fresh insights, compelling solutions, and renewed motivation to accelerate change on the continent.
At Tataachi Network, we’ve always believed in the power of technology to close the protection gap across Africa. The conversations at ITC Asia reaffirmed our mission, while urging us to think even bigger.
Global Collaboration: Fueling Insurance Technology in Africa
One of the most powerful takeaways from ITC Asia was the importance of global partnerships. This event was not just a showcase of innovation—it was a meeting ground for cross-sector collaboration. Insurance, reinsurance, and technology leaders came together to build bridges, not silos.
For insurance technology in Africa to reach scale, we need to adopt a collaborative mindset. Successful models from Asia and Europe—such as peer-to-peer microinsurance or AI-driven underwriting—can be adapted and localized to serve Africa’s distinct needs. Knowledge sharing is the first step to creating solutions that truly work for our people.
Claims Innovation: How AI and Blockchain Are Redefining Insurance in Africa
Among the most discussed topics at the conference was the disruptive impact of AI and blockchain on claims processing. In many African markets, delayed claims have eroded trust in insurance. But technology offers a way forward.
With insurance technology in Africa, claims can be verified instantly, fraud can be significantly reduced, and payouts can happen within hours. Imagine a smallholder farmer in rural Rwanda submitting a claim via mobile and receiving their compensation the same day. This is already happening in other regions—and with the right investment, it can become the norm in Africa too.
At Tataachi Network, we are actively integrating AI-based claims systems that prioritize speed, transparency, and trust.
Data-Driven Insurance: Unlocking the Future of Personalized Coverage
As highlighted at ITC Asia, data is the backbone of modern insurance. The ability to capture, analyze, and act on relevant data enables insurers to understand risk, personalize products, and improve customer engagement.
For insurance technology in Africa to be effective, it must leverage local data—like mobile phone usage patterns, geolocation, and behavioral indicators—to create affordable, accessible solutions tailored to real needs.
This data-driven approach also supports inclusive models such as pay-as-you-go insurance, weather-indexed crop protection, and dynamic pricing—all of which can help close the massive insurance gap on the continent.
Mobile-First Insurance Technology in Africa: Expanding Access at Scale
Africa’s mobile revolution is the cornerstone of its digital transformation. At ITC Asia, it was clear that mobile-first platforms are the most effective way to increase insurance access, particularly in underserved regions.
Today, millions of Africans live far from bank branches or insurance offices—but most have mobile phones. That’s why insurance technology in Africa must be designed for mobile onboarding, USSD integration, and app-based claims submission.
At Tataachi Network, we are investing in mobile platforms that allow customers to sign up, pay, and claim directly from their phones. This isn’t just digital convenience—it’s social inclusion. Mobile-based solutions are already helping us reach populations that legacy systems ignored for decades.
Customer Experience: Automation and AI Building Trust in African Markets
The future of insurance is not only about product design—it’s also about how we deliver service. At ITC Asia, sessions focused on how automation and AI are improving the customer experience.
For Africa, where insurance literacy and trust are still developing, technologies like chatbots, digital onboarding, and real-time support can drive engagement and increase adoption. These tools allow insurers to deliver consistent, accessible service, even in remote or resource-limited settings.
By leveraging automation, insurance technology in Africa can provide faster answers, transparent processes, and a smoother user journey—helping redefine what customers expect from their insurers.
Leapfrogging into the Digital Insurance Future
One of the most compelling ideas at ITC Asia was that Africa doesn’t need to follow the traditional path. Without heavy legacy infrastructure, the continent is uniquely positioned to leapfrog straight into digital-first insurance ecosystems.
The opportunity is clear: insurance technology in Africa can be the solution to long-standing barriers like affordability, accessibility, and lack of trust. With access to global best practices and local ingenuity, we can create systems that are built for every African—from the urban entrepreneur to the rural farmer.
At Tataachi Network, we’re not watching this shift from the sidelines—we’re building it. Through AI-enabled claims, mobile-first platforms, and data-informed product design, we are committed to shaping the future of insurance across the continent.
Conclusion: Transforming Inspiration into Action
I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who made ITC Asia 2025 a truly transformative experience. The conversations we started in Singapore must continue in boardrooms, communities, and governments across Africa.
With bold thinking, the right partnerships, and the strategic use of technology, we can usher in a digitally empowered, inclusive insurance future.
Let’s keep innovating, collaborating, and pushing boundaries—for the benefit of every African who deserves protection, peace of mind, and opportunity.
