The Bahrain Insurance Association anticipates that the mandatory health insurance for expats and international visitors to Bahrain will generate premiums worth 71 million BHD (188 million USD).
Before the end of 2023, the revised plan is expected to be put into effect. The last stages of the preparation work have been completed, and several regulatory procedures are being finished with regional insurance providers.
According to Mr. Jawad Muhammad, chairman of the Bahrain Insurance Association, Bahrain’s mandatory health insurance program for foreigners is anticipated to bring in more than BHD71 million ($188 million) from foreigners.
In addition, he added, “Insurance companies will provide a standard insurance plan that covers fundamental health insurance services for foreigners, which would benefit the insurance industry.
The Supreme Council of Health has established a cap of BHD90 ($239), excluding value-added tax, for the health insurance plan specifically for foreigners, Mr. Mohammed continued.
The program mandates that employers offer their employees and their dependents a mandatory health care coverage through the purchase of individual insurance plans.
Primary healthcare, hospital accomodation, unintentional bodily injury, emergency services, and treatments for chronic diseases are among the coverages offered under the mandatory health insurance program.
A comprehensive and self-financing health insurance system is the goal of the mandatory insurance program, which also aims to change the culture of reliance on public health services.
